WeedJar Cannabis is an Indigenous family-owned business with four locations in Toronto, Canada. Their mission? To provide the best cannabis products and gear, build lasting customer relationships, and deliver top-notch shopping experiences.
How to stand out in a crowded market and compete with established brands
Before working with us, WeedJar faced a common challenge: standing out in a crowded market. More specifically, they wanted to increase their foot traffic and sales. Many of their stores had opened within the past six months, and they were struggling to compete with longstanding “grandfather” cannabis brands that had been in the same cannabis retail area for years.
Increase Google Maps to rank for “cannabis store near me”
At the beginning of our project, WeedJar operated three retail locations: Broadview Ave, Oakwood Ave, and Eglinton Ave E. They hadn’t done any SEO or digital marketing at any of their locations and wanted to increase their Google Maps presence and ranking for keywords like “cannabis store near me.”
An optimized website, Google Business Profile, and Google review process
To help them reach their goals, we optimized their website, fine-tuned their Google Business Profile, and created original SEO content to get WeedJar to the top three on Google Maps for keywords like “cannabis store near me.” We also worked with their General Managers to set up a Google review management process to make collecting customer feedback a breeze. Creating and implementing this process helped WeedJar keep up with its competitors and organically rank for keywords.
41.20% increase in organic search traffic
4.6 Google Review score across all 3 locations
#1 Google Maps ranking for “cannabis store oakwood”
In just six months, WeedJar’s organic search traffic increased by 41.20% (4561 to 6440 on Google Analytics) and all three retail locations achieved a Google Review score of 4.6 or higher.
The Broadview and Oakwood locations secured a #1 ranking on Google Maps for our targeted priority keywords:
Broadview:
“where to buy weed in broadview”
“where to get weed in broadview”
“where to buy marijuana in broadview”
“indica in broadview north”
Oakwood:
“where to buy weed in oakwood”
“where to get weed in oakwood”
“cannabis store oakwood”
“oakwood cannabis dispensary”
“oakwood cannabis store”
“legal weed yok toronto”
The Broadview location ranked in the top three on Google Maps for keywords:
“where to get weed in pape ave”
“pape ave cannabis”
“pape ave marijuana”
“pape ave weed”
“marijuana pape ave”
Last but certainly not least, the Scarborough location achieved a top five ranking on Google Maps for product keywords, which they initially were not ranking for:
“weed chocolates scarborough”
“where to buy pre rolls in scarborough”
“cannabis chocolates in scarborough”
“where to buy weed chocolates in scarborough”
“where to buy cannabis chocolates in scarborough”
“marijuana concentrates in scarborough”
“pre rolls in scarborough”
But the journey didn’t end there. Fueled by our shared success, they opened a fourth location in Yorkville to serve their growing community of cannabis enthusiasts.
We’re so proud to have been a part of WeedJar’s growth and support an incredible Indigenous family-owned and operated business. Today, they’re no longer the new kid on the block, trying to get more customers in the door. They’ve ‘blazed’ their own trail of success, and we can’t wait to see how the brand continues to evolve.
